Story

Our eighth annual Rubie’s Walk will take place along The Manifold Way in the Staffordshire Countryside Being tarmaced and almost totally flat its designed with families in mind and is open to all ages and abilities, making this the perfect event to spend time with your loved ones, whilst raising awareness of this cruel and devastating disease. There is no registration fee or minimum sponsorship, however sponsorship is the key to our event success and we urge every participant to raise as much as they can – the money we raise WILL help end Meningitis. Please help us defeat meningitis & septicaemia - for everyone, everywhere. Rubie was like any other baby finding her way in the world when she developed what was thought to be a cold. As we awoke the next morning, Rubie had become cold, limp and was breathing shallowly. After calling 999, within minutes the first responder arrived, quickly followed by an ambulance which took Rubie to the Royal Stoke University Hospital, where the Peadeatric Intensive Care team tried to establish what was wrong, eventually managing to stabilise her. Despite her brave fight, sadly Rubie was lost to the angels on May 22 as it was discovered she had bacterial meningitis – with no rash and no symptoms. MENINGITIS kills. It kills about 300,000 people annually. If you haven't lost a child, it is a pain that is unexplainable. You never get over it. You never stop hurting.
